The Colorado High School Cup is designed to allow for year round opportunites in whitewater canoeing and kayaking racing and development in Colorado.
In past, this has been a four race series between April and May throughout Colorado, culminating Mothers Day weekend in Golden, Colorado and hosted by the Alexander Dawson School and the FRPA program heads, Nate Lord and Chris Wiegand. The whoel vision of the spring Colorado High School Cup was that of Peter Benedict of CRMS and Nate of Dawson in 1998. Now 10 years in the making, it is stronger than ever.
By bringing together the most active coaches in Colorado, which is now the greatest depth of whitewater development in the US, we have decided we needed more opportunites to develop not only the top athletes in the Olympic discipline of Slalom, but rather the most well rounded multi discipline canoe/kayak athletes in the US. Not only superiority in whitewater skills do these kids hold, but also the greatest passion for just being part of a great sport for all the right reasons, 'just for the love of it'.
Join us on our journey for new friends, great whitewater and fun while learning to identify and challenge your next level.
Our alumni from the Colorado High School Whitewater Series are now spread all over the US collegiate kayaking scene and spots on the US Whitewater Slalom, Freestyle and Wildwater Teams as well the board of directors for USA Canoe/Kayak, the Olympic National Governing body for the Sport of Canoeing and Kayaking in the US.
Events such as Slalom, Wildwater (Downriver), Freestyle and Boatercross take place for this series to assist in developing the paddler that is the most open minded and well rounded talent wise.
