This trip IS NOT for the faint of heart.

This is a difficult man made class 4 whitewater course located in Guiyang, China in the southwest corner of China. This course has been the testing facility for the 2008 Olympic Whitewater Course being built in Beijing.

Each athlete will train approx. 6 hours daily plus additional Sports Psych work and dryland mobility work. The Chinese and North American athletes will eat, train and live together at the Chinese National Training Center.

The focus is on the experience of a full time professional athlete. Can you handle what it takes to be the best in our sport?

For Consideration in the camp each athlete MUST include the following information in an email with appropriate word documents attached:

  • Email of consent from each athletes school guidance counselor stating that it is permitted to miss 11/15 – 11/31 from all school classes and activities.
  • Email Stating GPA from most recent semester was a 3.0 GPA or better (5.0 scale)
  • Athlete Essay stating what each athlete brings to this trip as a person and athlete. Why are your goals appropriate with the mission of the trip? How does your life follow the FRPA Circle of Excellence Sportsmanship, Family,  Spirituality,  Education and Volunteerism in the Community  as well how you perceive you the Five Olympic Ideals of Vision, Focus, Commitment, Persistence and Discipline and how they apply to your training.
  • Letter of Rec from local government Official, School, Coach or other official in your community stating the integrity of the applicant athlete.

All Applications must be submitted no later than September 6, 2006

Al Applicants will receive an acceptance or decline no later than September 8, 2006

A board of three people, which include members of the Chinese National Team will also be in the advisory board to select eligible athletes.

Selection is not solely based on athletic performance history, but also on education, sportsmanship ethics and the relevance to your goals and the Olympic Ideals for this trip.

There are only 12 total slots available and will be offered to the athletes that best fit the criteria and purpose of this trip.

Understand that I have never had "cuts" for a camp before as the FRPA accepts everyone in most cases, however the Chinese Government has limited our group size and only so many boats are available to the athletes. The Chinese Team will provide all boats for the US/Canadian athletes to use to make our journey less logistically challenged.

Athletes will be ambassadors to the US and serve as mentors to Chinese Athletes and members of their community to help spread paddlesport throughout the country.

I look forward to working with each of you for this first ever FRPA High Performance Whitewater Camp outside of North America.

Additional trips in the future will be made available to different athletes and group sizes.

**** Once accepted on the trip you will need to promptly apply for a passprt if you do not already have one. I will then provide you with information as to how we will go about applying for visa entry into China. I will deal with the embassies and send the passports as they have requested for our group. *****
