2005 Ice Breaker Slalom Race

With temperatures hitting 70 degrees and clear Colorado skies, the 2005 Ice Breaker Slalom Race went on without a single problem. Normal race turnouts from years past averaged 40 racers, with this years registrants at 84 slalom racers. Top rodeo and creek boaters from across the Colorado putting their skills to test. As usual in the past few years, Front Range Paddle Association Racers take the top places in most divisions.

Collegiate Teams from Wyoming, Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado, Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs competed against one another for the Icebreaker points. Events such as Boater Cross, Kayak Polo, Freestyle and the ulimate Trash Collection Race allow teams of 5 athletes to accumulate points for the Icebreaker Cup.

Last years champions were made up of a combined Dawson School and FRPA team athletes. Again, heading into day 2, the FRPA/Dawson Combined team is far ahead of the pack. Nic Borst ran away with the boater cross championship with more than half a course separating top kayakers such as Ty Coleman, Dunbar Hardy and Chad Crabtree who took the next places.

Thanks to all the volunteers making this event possible. Without so many hands, events like these in the Front Range would not be nearly as successful.
